Waimea Valley
Nature Preserve · Haleiwa, Hawaii
A valley on the North Shore of Oahu of historic cultural significance, and an important place in Hawaiian religion. It holds stone terraces and walls built during the time of the Hawaiian monarchy alongside a botanical collection of some five thousand plant species, and a paved three-quarter-mile path runs up the valley to a waterfall with a supervised swimming pool. It is run as a cultural and botanical preserve rather than as an attraction, and the interpretation reflects that.

Open daily with a per-person admission and free parking; generally mid-morning to mid-afternoon with last entry well before closing. ⚠ THE WATERFALL SWIM IS CONDITIONAL AND CLOSES WITHOUT NOTICE for high water, bacteria levels or maintenance - do not build the visit around it. Lifeguards supervise the pool when it is open and a flotation device is required. ⚠ IT IS NOT THE FREE BEACH ACROSS THE ROAD; Waimea Bay is a separate public beach and visitors confuse the two constantly.
