Wakodahatchee Wetlands

Wetland Reserve · Delray Beach, Florida

Fifty acres of constructed wetland in Delray Beach that exists because Palm Beach County needed somewhere to put highly treated wastewater, and built a marsh to polish it. The result is one of the best bird photography sites in North America — a three-quarter-mile boardwalk through a wood stork rookery, free, with nesting birds a few feet from the rail and no attempt made to hide the fact that this is a utility.

13026 Jog Road, Delray Beach, Florida, 33446, United States

Open daily, generally sunrise to sunset, and FREE. No pets. The car park is small and fills with photographers early on winter weekends.
