Walkway Over the Hudson
Historic Bridge · Poughkeepsie, New York
The Poughkeepsie-Highland railroad bridge of 1888, which carried freight until a fire in 1974 left it derelict for thirty-five years, reopened in 2009 as a linear state park and generally described as the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. It is 1.28 miles across and 212 feet above the water, and the deck is wide enough that the height stops feeling like height about a third of the way over.
61 Parker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York, 12601, United States
FREE and open 365 days a year, generally dawn to dusk with seasonal variation and evening lighting on the deck. Paid parking at both ends.
