Wallis Sands State Beach

Sandy State Beach On The Rye Shore Run By New Hampshire State Parks, With Lifeguards And A Bathhouse In Summer And A Parking Fee Per Car In Season; Views East To The Isles Of Shoals. · Rye, New Hampshire

A wide crescent of sand on the Rye shore of New Hampshire's short Atlantic coast, run by New Hampshire State Parks as a summer swimming beach with lifeguards, a bathhouse and a large parking lot that charges a fee per car in season (confirm). It faces east over the Gulf of Maine, and on clear days the low islands of the Isles of Shoals show on the horizon about six miles out. The beach is sandy and gently sloping, with rocky ledges at either end that expose tide pools at low water, and the surf is usually small, which makes it a favorite with families who want the ocean without the boardwalk crowds farther south. The water is cold even in August, rarely much above the mid-60s F. Ocean Boulevard, the coast road also signed as Route 1A, runs right behind the beach, linking it with the coastal parks, Rye Harbor, the other Rye beaches and the big summer houses of the shore. Outside the summer season the beach is quiet, open for walking and used by surfers and dog walkers when rules allow.

1050 Ocean Boulevard, Rye, New Hampshire, 03870, United States

The beach is staffed in the summer season, roughly from Memorial Day weekend (weekends only at first) to Labor Day, typically from about 8 am to late afternoon or evening, when the parking fee is charged, the bathhouse and snack bar are open and lifeguards are on duty in the day (confirm dates and hours). Lifeguards usually work a shorter day than the gate. Outside the season the facilities close, there are no lifeguards, and access for walking may be limited to what the gate and roadside parking allow (confirm). The lot can close to new cars when full on hot weekends. Dog rules change by season, with dogs usually barred in summer (confirm).
