Walters Art Museum
Art Museum · Baltimore, Maryland
A free encyclopedic museum in Mount Vernon assembled by a Baltimore railroad family across two generations and given outright to the city in 1931 — the buildings, the collection and an endowment, on the condition that the public could see it. It runs from Egyptian and Greek antiquity through Byzantine and Ethiopian icons, one of the largest holdings of illuminated manuscripts in America, arms and armour, Asian art and nineteenth-century European painting. Seven thousand years in one building, and it costs nothing.
600 North Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland, 21201, United States
FREE admission, always. Generally open Wednesday to Sunday, roughly 10 AM to 5 PM, and CLOSED MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS and on major holidays — verify before travelling. Some special exhibitions are ticketed. No on-site parking; metered street parking and nearby garages.
