It Holds The Saskatchewan Legislative Building (1912), The Royal Saskatchewan Museum And Canada Geese And Pelicans. Free To Walk. · Regina, Saskatchewan

Wascana Centre is a large urban park in the middle of Regina, Saskatchewan, built around Wascana Lake, an artificial lake made in the 1880s by damming Wascana Creek. At roughly 930 hectares it is one of the larger city parks in North America, and it holds the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, opened in 1912, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and the MacKenzie Art Gallery. On the prairie, where trees were planted by hand, the green belt feels like an oasis. Walkers, joggers, cyclists and families use the paths, geese and pelicans use the islands, and summer festivals fill the grounds. Be honest about the climate: wind is constant, summer can be hot, and winter is long and bitterly cold. It suits families, bird lovers and anyone passing through Regina. Allow two to four hours, more if you tour the Legislative Building and the museum. Walking in the park is free; confirm tour and museum details.

Large urban park around man-made Wascana Lake in the centre of Regina, with the Saskatchewan Legislative Building, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the MacKenzie Art Gallery and bird-nesting islands, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

The park itself is open all hours and walking, cycling and picnicking are free. The Legislative Building offers free guided tours on a posted schedule that is usually fuller in summer and limited on weekends and holidays, so confirm times before you go; you may need to pass a security check at the entrance. The Royal Saskatchewan Museum and the MacKenzie Art Gallery keep their own daytime hours, often closed on one day a week, and admission rules change, so check each before you visit. Boat tours, rentals and festival stalls are seasonal, mainly late spring to early autumn, and in deep winter the lake is frozen and paths can be icy.
