Washington Crossing Historic Park
State Park · Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania
The bank of the Delaware from which George Washington took the Continental Army across the river on the night of 25 December 1776, marched nine miles through sleet and took the Hessian garrison at Trenton the following morning — the action that kept the Revolution alive after a catastrophic year. The park preserves the ferry inn where the officers waited, a village of period buildings, reproduction Durham boats, and the burial ground of the soldiers who did not survive the winter. It is a Pennsylvania state park rather than a National Park Service site.
