Wat Tham Klong Phen
Forest Monastery Associated With The Revered Monk Luang Pu Khao Analayo · Nong Bua Lamphu, Nong Bua Lamphu
Wat Tham Klong Phen is a forest monastery in the low, wooded sandstone hills of Nong Bua Lamphu province in north-east Thailand, known across the country as the place where the revered meditation master Luang Pu Khao Analayo lived, taught and died. Luang Pu Khao was one of the leading disciples of Ajahn Mun, the great teacher of the Thai forest tradition, whose monks live simply in the forest and devote themselves to meditation and strict discipline. Pilgrims come to pay respect at the memorial and museum dedicated to him, where his relics and belongings are kept, and to the caves and overhanging rock shelters among the trees where monks have meditated. This is a working monastery, not a sight: visitors should dress modestly, ideally in white, speak softly and keep away from monks' huts, and should expect restrictions during the rains retreat. Around it lies a quiet province of rice fields and hills, with the King Naresuan shrine in the provincial town and the fossils and reservoir of Phu Kao - Phu Phan Kham National Park, about an hour from Udon Thani by road.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the monastery welcomes respectful visitors during daylight, roughly 7 am to 5 pm, with the memorial and museum open in the daytime, but halls may close around the morning meal, afternoon rest and evening chanting, and access can be restricted during the rains retreat from roughly July to October, meditation retreats and major ceremonies; the gates may close at dusk. The traps are arriving during the monks' meal, turning up in shorts, wandering towards monks' huts, expecting to stay without asking, coming at midday in April, and finding no transport back to town. Confirm current times before relying on them.
