Waxahachie
Heritage District · Waxahachie, Texas
A cotton town south of Dallas whose 1895 Ellis County Courthouse is generally reckoned the finest in Texas — a red sandstone and pink granite Romanesque pile with carved faces worked into the columns, standing over a square of Victorian commercial buildings and streets of gingerbread houses that have made the town a standing film location.
101 West Main Street, Waxahachie, Texas, 75165, United States
The town and the square are free to walk and always open. ⚠ THE COURTHOUSE IS A WORKING COUNTY BUILDING and public access to the interior varies — the exterior carving, which is the main attraction, is visible from the pavement at any time. ⚠ THE GINGERBREAD HOUSES ARE PRIVATE HOMES, seen from the street except during the annual Gingerbread Trail tour, which is ticketed. No individual prices are stated here.
