Orlando's spring — a large swimming basin and a wild blackwater river inside the metropolitan area, twenty minutes from downtown. Seven thousand acres of sand pine scrub and hammock surround it, the Wekiva is a state-designated Wild and Scenic River, and the contrast between the theme park corridor and this is the reason locals guard it so closely.
