West Edmonton Mall

Privately Owned Shopping And Entertainment Centre · Edmonton, Alberta

A gigantic shopping and entertainment complex in west Edmonton, opened in 1981, ⚠ THE LARGEST MALL IN NORTH AMERICA AND THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD FROM THE MID-1980s UNTIL 2004. Beyond hundreds of stores it holds Galaxyland, an indoor amusement park with the triple-loop Mindbender roller coaster; World Waterpark, with a huge indoor wave pool and tall slides kept warm through the Alberta winter; an NHL-size ice rink; a lake with a replica of Columbus's ship the Santa Maria; a miniature golf course; cinemas; and the Fantasyland Hotel, known for its themed rooms. The whole thing is indoors, so it is a year-round refuge from winters that regularly drop below minus 30 °C. ⚠ IN 1986 A MINDBENDER CAR DERAILED AND THREE RIDERS WERE KILLED; THE RIDE WAS REBUILT WITH NEW SAFETY SYSTEMS. ⚠ WORLD WATERPARK CLOSES PERIODICALLY FOR MAINTENANCE - CHECK BEFORE PLANNING A POOL DAY.

8882 170 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T5T 4J2, Canada

The mall is open daily year round, generally from 10 AM to 9 PM with shorter Sunday hours. Galaxyland, World Waterpark and the Ice Palace keep their own schedules and have maintenance closures. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
