Weston Playhouse

Theater · Weston, Vermont

A white clapboard playhouse on the green at Weston, home to the oldest professional theatre company in Vermont - founded in 1937 and now in its ninetieth season, running a summer programme of musicals, classic plays and new work in a village of a few hundred people. It draws actors and audiences from well outside the state, which is the odd and good thing about it: a serious professional season in a place with one shop, one church and a river. The company opened a second, smaller stage at Walker Farm in 2017. The Vermont Country Store is a four-minute walk down the same street.

703 Main Street, Weston, Vermont, 05161, United States

⚠ SUMMER SEASON ONLY - roughly JUNE TO EARLY SEPTEMBER, with productions running two to four weeks each and several in repertory. Outside the season there is generally nothing on and the building is closed. ⚠ BOOK UNDER THE COMPANY'S CURRENT NAME: it now trades as the WESTON THEATER COMPANY, and searching for Weston Playhouse may find the building but not the box office. This is the most practical thing to know. ⚠ POPULAR MUSICALS SELL OUT, particularly Saturday evenings in July and August - book well ahead, and request accessible seating when booking rather than on arrival, because the house is small and those positions go early. A SECOND, SMALLER STAGE AT WALKER FARM opened in 2017 and takes newer work, usually at lower prices. Free village parking, ⚠ LIMITED and sometimes a walk from the door. Talkbacks and pre-show discussions run seasonally. ⚠ THE VERMONT COUNTRY STORE IS 320 METRES DOWN THE SAME STREET. Bring a layer - Vermont evenings cool sharply even in July.
