White Lake State Park
State Park On A Clear, Sandy Bottomed Lake Below The Ossipee And Sandwich Ranges, With A Swimming Beach, A Campground And A Stand Of Old Pitch Pine Designated A National Natural Landmark. · Tamworth, New Hampshire
A state park on a small, clear lake in Tamworth, just off Route 16 at the southern edge of the White Mountains, with the Ossipee Range to the south and the Sandwich Range to the north. The lake has a sandy bottom and unusually clear, gentle water that warms quickly in summer, and a long sandy beach with a picnic grove makes it a favourite family swimming spot in the Mount Washington Valley area. Around the lake a flat trail of about two miles (confirm) runs through a stand of old pitch pine that has been designated a National Natural Landmark (confirm), a rare, fire-shaped forest type on sandy soil. A large campground spreads through the pines behind the beach, with sites booked through New Hampshire State Parks reservations, and non-motorized boats such as canoes and kayaks share the water with swimmers and anglers (confirm the boating rules). On calm mornings the peaks to the north reflect in the lake. Tamworth village, with its summer theatre and farm museum, is a few miles away, and the Lakes Region and the White Mountains are each within a half-hour drive.
