Wickford Village
National Register Historic District · North Kingstown, Rhode Island
A colonial harbour village in North Kingstown, on a small peninsula off Narragansett Bay, whose historic district went on the National Register in 1974. Its own sources call it one of the largest collections of eighteenth-century dwellings to be found anywhere in the Northeast, and unlike Newport it was never wealthy enough to be rebuilt, so the houses are modest and the street plan is intact. The Old Narragansett Church of 1707 survives here as the oldest Episcopal church building in the northeastern United States.
Brown Street, North Kingstown, Rhode Island, 02852, United States
FREE and open at all times — it is a working village with public streets, free street parking and no admission of any kind. Individual shops, cafes and the Old Narragansett Church keep their own hours; ⚠ MANY ARE SEASONAL, KEEP SHORT DAYS AND CLOSE EARLY, so a late-afternoon or out-of-season visit will find much of the retail shut. THE OLD NARRAGANSETT CHURCH OF 1707 HAS LIMITED AND SEASONAL OPENING — check before travelling if it is the reason for the trip. The village is flat and easily walked in an hour. Summer weekends bring day-trip traffic and fill the small parking areas; a weekday is materially better.
