Wildcat Mountain

Ski Area In Pinkham Notch Directly Across From Mount Washington And Tuckerman Ravine, Known For Steep, Old School Terrain, Wind And Cold And A Celebrated Lift Served View Of The Presidential Range; Summer Scenic Lift Rides Have Run (Confirm). · Jackson, New Hampshire

A ski area on the Wildcat Ridge in Pinkham Notch, facing Mount Washington across the valley and looking straight into Tuckerman Ravine and Huntington Ravine. From the upper trails the whole eastern face of the Presidential Range fills the view, and many skiers call it the best lift-served view in New England (a judgement, not a measurement). The mountain rises to about 4,000 feet with roughly 2,100 feet of vertical (confirm), and its trails are old-school New England: narrow, winding, steep in places and often wind-scoured, with one long, gentle trail from the summit so beginners can share the view. Weather is the other defining fact. Wildcat sits in one of the coldest, windiest corridors in the East, and wind holds on the summit lift are common. There is no resort village: the base is a lodge and parking lots on NH Route 16, and visitors stay in Jackson, North Conway or Gorham. In summer the main lift has run scenic rides to the summit, and a zip line has operated at the base (confirm both each season).

NH Route 16, Pinkham Notch, Jackson, New Hampshire, 03846, United States

The ski season usually runs from about late November or December into April, depending on snow, and Wildcat often stays open later into spring than many New Hampshire areas (confirm the closing date each year). Lifts generally turn from about 8 or 9 am to about 3:30 or 4 pm; confirm daily. The summit lift closes in high wind, sometimes for hours or a whole day, so check the morning report before driving. The ski area is closed from late April to summer. Summer scenic lift rides and the zip line, when offered, have run from about late June to mid-October, weekends only at the edges (confirm).
