Wildlife Prairie Park
Wildlife Park · Hanna City, Illinois
Two thousand acres of reclaimed strip-mine land west of Peoria, turned from 1978 onward by the conservationist Bill Rutherford into a park holding only animals native to Illinois — bison, elk, wolves, black bears, cougars, otters and waterfowl, in large enclosures across restored prairie and woodland. It also lets you sleep in a converted railway caboose, which is not something any other zoo in the state offers.
3826 North Taylor Road, Hanna City, Illinois, 61536, United States
Open year-round with REDUCED WINTER HOURS AND DAYS. Ticketed, free parking. Overnight caboose and cottage lodging books through the park and goes early.
