Wind River Range

Bridger, Fitzpatrick And Popo Agie Wildernesses — Bridger Teton And Shoshone National Forests · Pinedale, Wyoming

A hundred-mile granite range along the Continental Divide south-east of Jackson Hole, topped by Gannett Peak at 13,804 feet, the highest point in Wyoming, and holding Gannett Glacier, the largest glacier in the American Rockies. Hundreds of alpine lakes lie in its basins, and two of them are among the best-known backcountry destinations in the country: Titcomb Basin, and the ring of granite spires called the Cirque of the Towers. No road crosses it. Everything is reached on foot or horseback from trailheads on its edges, most often from Pinedale, and the season for most people runs from July to September.

Elkhart Park Trailhead, Skyline Drive, Pinedale, Wyoming, 82941, United States

Open year-round; practical for most visitors from July to September. The roads to Elkhart Park, Big Sandy and Green River Lakes are snowbound from roughly November into June.
