Woodland Park Zoo

Zoo · Seattle, Washington

A 92-acre zoo in the Phinney Ridge neighbourhood, on land the city bought from the estate of Guy Phinney in 1899. It was among the first zoos anywhere to replace cages with naturalistic immersion exhibits in the 1970s, an approach now standard everywhere, and it holds roughly 900 animals across 250 species. It is a good city zoo rather than a national destination, and the tropical rain forest and Northern Trail sections are the ones that justify the ticket.

5500 Phinney Avenue North, Seattle, Washington, 98103, United States

Open daily, generally 9:30 AM to 4 PM in winter and 9:30 AM to 6 PM in summer, with last entry an hour before closing. Closed Christmas Day. Parking is charged separately from admission in the zoo lots, and street parking in Phinney Ridge is time-limited and heavily used by residents.
