Woody Guthrie Center
Woody Guthrie Center And Archive, Tulsa Arts District; Opened 2013 · Tulsa, Oklahoma
The museum of Woody Guthrie, born in Okemah in 1912, who wrote This Land Is Your Land and some thousand other songs, rode freight trains through the Dust Bowl and the Depression, and shaped American folk music from Pete Seeger to Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen. It opened in 2013 in the Tulsa Arts District after the George Kaiser Family Foundation bought the Guthrie archive, and it holds his notebooks, lyric sheets in his own hand, letters, artwork and the guitar-scrawled politics that made him a target of the era's red scares. Interactive rooms let visitors mix his recordings, a Dust Bowl gallery puts his songs in the setting that produced them, and a small theatre shows films and hosts concerts. The Bob Dylan Center opened next door in 2022, and a joint ticket covers both.
