Woolly Hollow State Park

Arkansas State Park Around Lake Bennett, A 40 Acre Lake Built In 1932 By The United States Forest Service As An Erosion And Watershed Research Lake One Of The Earliest Of Its Kind With The 1882 Woolly Family Log Cabin Preserved On Site. · Greenbrier, Arkansas

Lake Bennett was built in 1932 not for recreation but for science: the Forest Service dammed this hollow to study soil erosion and watershed behaviour, making it one of the earliest research lakes of its kind in the country. It is forty acres, no motors allowed, which makes it one of the most pleasant paddling and swimming lakes in central Arkansas. Above it stands the 1882 Woolly family log cabin, preserved where the family built it. The park is small - a beach, a campground, a few cabins and a trail round the lake - and it is thirty-five minutes from Conway, which makes it central Arkansas's easy weekend.
