Yalong Bay (Sanya)
Yalong Bay National Resort District · Sanya, Hainan
A long crescent of fine white sand and clear turquoise water on the southern tip of Hainan, China's tropical island province, about 25 km east of Sanya city. Sheltered by green headlands and backed by palm-lined gardens, the bay is often called the Hawaii of the East and is lined with many of China's most famous international resort hotels. The water is warm year-round and clearer than at Sanya's city beaches, making it a base for snorkelling, diving, jet-skiing and glass-bottom boat trips over coral, while public entrances in the centre of the bay give free access to the sand. Behind it, the Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park climbs a jungle-covered ridge with a swaying suspension bridge and glass platforms looking over the bay. Sanya draws winter sun-seekers from across China and, increasingly, abroad: Hainan offers visa-free entry for visitors from dozens of countries, and the island-wide free trade port launched in December 2025 has made its duty-free malls even busier. Typhoons can close beaches in late summer.
