Yalova Termal

A Spa Valley Of Hot Mineral Springs Used Since Roman Times, With Ottoman And 1930s Ataturk Era Bathhouses, Hotel Pools, Plane Trees And Walks Through The Termal Valley. A Traditional Hot Spring Day Trip From Istanbul Across The Sea Of Marmara · Termal, Yalova

Termal is a spa valley about 12 km south of Yalova town, a short sea crossing across the Sea of Marmara from Istanbul, where hot mineral water has flowed from the hillside since Roman times. The valley has old bathhouses with domes and marble basins, hotel pools fed by spring water, plane trees along the stream and a small village of spa hotels, tea houses and shops. The springs are rich in minerals and are used for bathing and, in some places, for treatments, while many Turkish visitors come for a restorative day or a weekend. Some buildings date from the Ottoman period and the 1930s, when Ataturk visited the valley and encouraged its development as a spa (confirm). The setting is green, wet and quiet compared with the coast. A day at Termal combines hot water, a forest walk, a glass of tea and a slow return by ferry across the sea. Many visitors choose to stay at least one night in a spa hotel.
