Seven Landslide Dammed Lakes In Beech And Oak Forest, Protected As A National Park; Famous For About Three Weeks Of Autumn Colour · Bolu, Bolu

Seven small lakes sit in a fold of the Bolu mountains, each one dammed by an old landslide, surrounded by beech, oak and hornbeam forest that for about three weeks a year turns every shade between green and copper and makes this the most photographed woodland in Turkiye. Outside that window it is a quiet forest park with walking trails between the lakes, simple bungalows, camping ground, deer in the early morning and almost nobody in it - which is arguably the better version. Inside it, on an autumn weekend, the access road backs up for kilometres and the car parks fill by mid-morning. The park is about forty kilometres from Bolu on a road that is partly gravel and can be rough, which keeps the coach trade out and means you should check conditions rather than trusting a map. It sits halfway between Istanbul and Ankara, which is why the weekend crowds come. Go on a weekday or go outside the colour season entirely.

Yedigoller Milli Parki, Bolu Merkez, Bolu, Bolu, Turkiye

Open daily with a park entrance fee; the access roads are partly gravel and can be in poor condition. The autumn colour season, roughly the last week of October into mid-November, brings very heavy weekend traffic and the park can reach capacity. Snow closes some roads in winter. Bungalows and camping are booked through the forestry administration.
